First Baptist-West Music & Tutoring AfterSchool
The First Baptist-West Music & Tutoring Afterschool Program is an academic and fine arts program focused on serving at-risk students in grades K-8th who attend Title I schools. We provide help with homework--even when it's in Spanish--and WiFi, supper and extracurricular activities. Our program is primarily funded through a grant from the NC 21st Century Community Learning Center Program. We also offer the SMART Tutoring Program, a high-intensity tutoring service for students who are at least one grade level below their expected literacy growth. Our middle school students participate in the Career Coaching for Middle School Students Program.
Our teachers help students with their homework but parents are still expected to help their children and make sure the homework is turned in to school. For fine arts, our students take weekly lessons in Art, Ballet, Brass, Piano and Violin. We present student performing programs for Christmas and the end of the school year
We also provide hot, full suppers cooked on site courtesy of the NC Child and Adult Food Program.
Note that We follow the open/close schedule of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as well as CMS' inclement weather schedule.
If CMS is open, we're open. If CMS is closed, we're closed.
